JP Morgan Chase is letting Facebook users decide how to give away 5 million dollars!  The idea is to get small, local charities on Chase’s radar.

Basically, Facebook users have to go on to the “Chase Community Giving” fan page, and become a fan of it.  After you become a fan, you can vote for the charity of your choice.  The first round of voting takes place now, until December 11th.  The 100 charities getting the most votes by Dec. 11 will each receive $25,000 from Chase.  In the program’s second round, one of the 100 will get a grant of $1 million, determined by a Facebook vote that begins Jan. 15. Five runners-up will receive $100,000 each. In addition, an advisory board will award $1 million to nominated charities of its choice.

You can only vote once for a charity (per round).  In Round 2, you will have a chance to vote for 5 of the 100 finalists who will be asked to submit an explanation as to how they would use a $1,000,000 donation of Chase philanthropy dollars.

HOW YOU CAN HELP!  If you have a Facebook page, go onto Chase’s Community Giving fan page, become a fan (it will ask you about accepting the application….say ALLOW).  This direct link to SONJ’s page may work:    If not,  search for Special Olympics New Jersey.  Then VOTE for us.  Post it on your facebook wall and ask all of your friends to vote too.  It’s really easy…..we promise.

It will also help if you share this with your friends and family and get them on board.  We hope to make the top 100 and go from there!!

THANK YOU EVERYONE!! You can find the full New York Times article about this initiative  here:
