Last Minute Info for the Seaside Heights Polar Bear Plunge

We know that a ton of you have questions regarding the Plunge this Saturday (2/27/10) … so, we’ve done our best to compile Q&A’s for all of you.  If you have additional questions, feel free to comment and we’ll answer what we can!


A) The Plunge is STILL ON for Saturday! What better weather could we ask for than snow for a Polar Bear Plunge?!  However, please continue to check the website at for the latest information regarding the weather. We will also be updating our Twitter and Facebook accounts.


To ensure the safety of all participants, Special Olympics New Jersey and the Law Enforcement Torch Run request your cooperation in refraining from the consumption of alcoholic beverages prior to, during or post-Plunge.


Q) What time & Where is check in?

A) Plunger check-in begins at 9 a.m. in the large tent across from the Aztec between Sherman and Sheridan Avenues.

Extra Info about Check In

  • People can still register to Plunge On-Site starting at 9 a.m. inside the tent.
  • The first 3000 Plungers registered before Feb. 1st are guaranteed a sweatshirt, after that it is on a first come first serve basis.
  • In order to receive a Polar Bear Plunge sweatshirt, you must have raised $100 by Plunge day. Money will be accepted at check-in in the form of cash, check or credit card.
  • Captains can register their entire team (all members of a team do not need to enter check-in tent)


Q) Where do I park?

A) On-street parking is free throughout Seaside Heights. We suggest you arrive early if you would like to be close to the Aztec.


Q) Where do Plungers and Spectators go?

A) Plungers should plan to be on the beach by at least 12:30 as it will take time to get through the crowds

  • All Plungers should enter the beach from the Sheridan entrance.
  • All Spectators should enter further down starting at Sherman and entrances north of Sherman.


Q) Do Plungers get lunch?  What about Spectators?

A) Plungers receive lunch for themselves and one guest.  All other spectators or family members may purchase a wristband at the souvenir tent for $10 that will get you into one of the restaurants serving lunch. Q) When will online donations be accepted till?

A)  Online donations will remain open until April 30.

  1. Please, please, PLEASE do not postpone the plunge. I have been waiting ALL YEAR for this. I cannot make it any other weekend. I bought customized teamshirts and my team made a big flag. We have been preparing since October!!! PLEASE!!! DONOT POSTPONE IT!!!

  2. Please do not postpone the polar bear plunge… PLEASE!!! I cannot attend if you do. It should be on even if there is a lot of snow, because it would be more memorable and fun! It would be awesome. PLEASE DO NOT POSTPONE

  3. I look forward to the plunge myself, but please take into account the weather and road conditions for people who are travelling signifigant distances. We all signed up to jump into the ocean in cold weather, that’s not a problem. But risking people’s safety to get there and back should be a primary concern.
