Introducing New Jersey’s Team USA Members!

Every two years, the world comes together to recognize and honor the abilities of athletes with intellectual disabilities. From June 25 to July 4, more than 7,500 Special Olympics Athletes from 185 nations will compete in 22 Olympic-type sports at the 2011 World Summer Games in Athens, Greece, the “land of fair play.”

Team USA will consist of about 300 athletes from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, including seven from New Jersey. They will be accompanied by about 120 coaches and support staff. Athletes are chosen by their home states and, before the World Games, will have the opportunity to meet, train and bond as a team at the Team USA Training Camp in San Diego March 28 – April 1, 2011.

New Jersey’s team members qualified by placing in New Jersey’s state games in 2009, and then at the National Games in Nebraska in 2010.
