Winter Games: Day 3

Yesterday was the second and final day of competition at the 2013 Winter Games. Our day started early, with breakfast at 6 a.m. Coming into the room, you never would have guessed that the athletes not only spent a full day competing already, but that they partied late into the night at the Winter Dance! One skier was overheard saying to his teammate, “The dance was really fun, but I’m ready to win some medals!”

It flurried through the night, leaving the morning grey and foggy but somehow, it seemed slightly warmer. Everyone had their “game face” on as they fortified themselves for another day. Many athletes were already on the slopes well before 9 a.m. or on their way over to the Drop Zone, where Snowshoeing kicked off at 9:30 a.m.

snowCompetition throughout the day was a fantastic display of Genuine Jersey Pride, with every event showcasing the highest level of athletic skill, sportsmanship and determination. Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding wrapped up in the early afternoon, leaving opportunity for some of those athletes to head over to Snowshoeing and Cross Country Skiing to cheer on their friends.

Winter Games came to a close around 3 p.m. as athletes packed up their gear, showed off their “bling” to one another, and said goodbye to their friends. We want to extend our sincere thanks to Mountain Creek in Vernon, Skylands Ice World in Stockholm, all of the volunteers, committee members, coaches, fans and staff.
